Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are required as part of the planning application process for certain types of development. An EIA provides an assessment of the likely impacts, both positive and negative, of a new development on the natural environment. The onus is on the developer to present an Environmental Statement.
This is a publicly available consultation document, which sets out the potentially significant environmental impacts of the development and measures to mitigate these impacts. The content of the Statement, together with any comments, are taken into consideration by the deciding body in granting planning consent. This section provides more information on what an EIA involves and should cover.
