This document is intended primarily for developers and their advisors, and explains how the requirements for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) have been incorporated into the procedures for the granting of licences by the Environment Agency to abstract or impound water, or consents in appropriate circumstances.v show details
This is a system which follows the European Community Directive (96/61), which will introduce a more integrated approach to controlling pollution from industrial sources, across England and Wales. A new UK regime, Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC), will eventually replace the existing legislation (under Part 1 of the Environment Protection Act 1990) and implement the EC Directive on integrated pollution prevention. The IPPC embodies an approach broadly similar to IPC, but takes on a wider view of integrated permitting.v show details

Environmental measure designed to reduce water pollution by nitrate from agricultural sources and to prevent such pollution occurring in the future. Details of implementation plan in England - relevant to runoff from wood chip store. v show details
Relevant for those growing biomass for fuel - EIA must be carried out for water management projects for agriculture, including irrigation projects, involving the abstraction (taking) or impoundment (storage) of water, which could have significant environmental effects. Regulations also apply to abstractions and impoundments that do not currently require an Environment Agency abstraction licence (ie. for trickle irrigation), where significant environmental effects are likely. v show details
